His life

Always willing to extend his hand and heart to others.

Known for his lighthearted spirit, technical prowess, and quick wit, Steve Frank was also a competitive mountain biker, Wasatch hiking enthusiast, and dedicated walker of his cherished German Shorthaired Pointer, Siggi.

After graduating from the University of California at Santa Barbara with a major in economics, Steve became a teaching Vice-Principal at Mary Tone Elementary in Crestline, California. At Rim of the World High School in Lake Arrowhead, California, he then taught economics and was also the men’s soccer and tennis coach.

While teaching and coaching, Steve was a member of the San Bernardino Search and Rescue Team for over five years. He trained new members, searched for and evacuated victims of plane crashes, and sacrificed untold hours—often on holidays—locating lost hikers.

He owned and operated a Baskin-Robbins ice cream store in Cottonwood Heights for five years and then worked at State Stone in Murray. He transitioned to heading tech support and becoming the Machinery Manager for Century Equipment’s nine locations.

Nurturing their love for nature, Steve adored taking his children biking, camping, hiking, and back-country skiing. He cheered them on at all their soccer, roller hockey, ice hockey, and lacrosse games.

He enjoyed sailing in Southern California, the Utah reservoirs, and Lake Tahoe. He even pulled his Hobie Cat across Canada just to sail in Bar Harbor, Maine. A world traveler, he also traveled to Mexico and cruised to numerous European countries.

An advocate for the environment, Steve enthusiastically supported the Holladay Tree Committee for over six years. He participated in their Arbor Day celebrations at local schools, attended Tree Talks, and helped plant numerous trees throughout Holladay.

Family

57 years of marriage, a family, and a lifetime of memories.

Steve is survived by his wife of 57 years, Wendy; children, Aliette and Scot; sister-in-law Susan Bagley; niece Marianna Wallasch (Charlie Wallasch) and their children Crystal Campbell (Nick Campbell), Sabrina Harkin (Thomas Harkin), Tyler, and Justin (Yas); niece Susannah Hicks (Will Hicks) and their children, Sam and Katrina; niece Nicole Blair (Jaime Blair) and their children, Charlie, Benny and GG; and Dr. Justine Young Bagley.

Always willing to extend his hand and heart to others, Steve leaves a legacy of compassionately giving, serving, and making a positive difference in many people’s lives.

In tribute

Plant a tree.

Albeit Steve requested no formal services be held, his family would be grateful to all who would plant a tree in tribute to his life well lived.
